BLACK BOX PROJECT

The Black Box Project

We were once again put into groups and each given a BLACK BOX with an evolope inside stating a brand ours was "Fairy Liquid". We then had to place back into the black box a series of visual clues which describes the brans. That is then passed on to another group to work out.The box we got back had these clue in side.
The clues were very nicely done not too hard and once we worked out the the dog was a drawing of a posh dog = pedigree the brand Pedigree Chums was quickly put on the table after including the friends reference of chum a word rhyming with bum!
When all then did some research and started generating ideas to which we decided to do a fun poster of a dog running and jumping to catch the pedigree treats from heaven

W.O.W Poster Idea

I has stared to generate a couple of ideas for the w.o.w poster design. I've decided to based the poster around the theme of sweatshops as that is the most popular campaign w.o.w are doing at the moment with the "LOVE FASHION,HATE SWEATSHOPS" campaign. I've played around with ideas such as e.g. the use barcode as a reference of the workers having no identity. However I have know chosen to do a poster design based around the use of label and/or tags as they are a key factor in the clothing we buy.

NEW PROJECT: War on Want Charity

W.O.W Brief

Our new brief is to create a poster campaign encouraging people to make donation and/or sign up and become a supporter of the w.o.w charity. The project will last for 5 week! much shorter than our previous projects so need to keep on top of things.
The poster is to go into a Ad-shel so the layout and text needs to be considered. Our tutorial today helped alot in starting to generate ideas for the poster and how we are supposed to reel in the younger generation. The main aim at this point is RESEARCH and lots of it!

Visual Equation Finals

Visual Equations

The project Visual Equations was the hardest to complete in my option. The overall aim of this project was interesting and allowed us lots of freedom of putting two opposing element together to create a new interesting image. I worked through the project by looking at artists and producing some sketches that allowed me to start developing ideas and putting them down on paper.
When working on the sketches I found that the final pieces for the project would most likely look better if produced digitally. So this made me develop my ideas onto the computer.
Overall the most successful piece created from this project was of the egg and bee’s. I found that this image worked best because all the element tied together perfectly in creating something new and exciting that attracts attention. If I were to have more time on this project I would try and develop the ideas to create something as visually sound as the egg and bee’s image.

Promo Print

Promo Print

The Promo Print project allowed me to have the experience to explore the Quark Express programme. This project reinforced the importance of the layout design of a piece of work and Quark has giving me a further insight into the levels of accuracy needed to complete work to a professional standard that can then be easily transported to print e.g. the 3mm bleed needed to avoid work being spoiled.
I found Quark to be initially hard to work with, as I never really thought thoroughly about the importance of imputing accurate information but found that it was essential to get the desired outcome.
At the end of the project I produced an eight page spread including the work from my previous projects and a description about me as a visual communicator.
The project was an overall successes as I believe the pages run from one page to the next quite smoothly aided by the turquoise lines that brings a constant factor into the booklet.

Letter Press

Playful Type, Letter Press

The project Playful Type was one of the best projects as it allowed me to learn a new skill that I never had the chance to previously. At first the process of letter press was tricky and I often found that my words were in the wrong order and would come out backwards. However the experience was amazing and showed me that letter pressed work can easily outrank digitalised typography because pieces that are pressed by hand instantly have a characteristic about them that cannot be replicated.
I moved on to try to represent the text with the way the type was laid out. E.g. I used the term “locked” as another word relating to “Boundary” and laid out the characters so that they were locked together on a rectangle almost creating the illusion of a padlock.
The use of colour and different textured paper also helped to create a different outcome from the letter press. On several of my letter press I experiment with the different types of paper I found that each one always gave a different impression from the characters being very solid because the paper socked up the ink better to tracing paper that created a nice delicate finish.

Quark Express session

Today was the first lesson in Quark Express
Learnt a lot about layout and what designers do to picture the final design layouts using grids in previous lesson. Today we put what we learnt on grids and layouts to practice and started to design the promo print booklets based around the project Text and Image. Getting the bleed measurements is still tricky but Quark is very useful and I will be using it to improve the layouts of future work
