The project Poole a Visual Insight
The project on Poole was an interesting one as I had never heard or even been to Poole before so it was something
that I could explore into. The project itself was fun as it allowed me to go to Poole and experience first hand what the
town was like and to record my findings through photography and sketches. I used what I saw in Poole to help me get
an understanding of the town which helped me to decide to create a illustration against the “Regeneration of Poole” as
I believed Poole to be a traditional seaside town that would be overrun if massive regeneration/modernisation were
to occur. For the outcome of the project I produced a detailed illustration for what I believe represented Poole.
The vibrant colour scheme was to portray the liveliness of Poole which I felt was evident on the day. I also chose to
add in multiple layers of Poole’s market scene as I believed it showed the comforts of Poole’s traditions and
established community. All this with the added caption of “Home sweet home…why change it?” balance the whole
piece nicely as I didn’t want the text to override the illustration, I wanted the illustration to also be able to speak for
itself as it would be surrounded by text in a newspaper article.
Overall I believe the Poole project was a success. I feel I portrayed what the essence of Poole was for me on my
first impression of being there and the illustration would impact on the locals to remind them that Poole has come a
long way already does it really need to be regenerated?
